In Ho Chi Minh city, 600 CEOs and Human Resources Managers of companies in the entire country attended a seminar themed "Driving sustainable growth through happier workforce" held by Anphabe on October 12.
Ms. Thanh Nguyen, CEO of Anphabe, said a survey showed that 39% of employees of Vietnamese companies are not really attached to their workplaces. It means that a large number of employees and laborers are feeling bored, working indifferently and below competence. Up to 67% of workers do not make effort to work. What is worth worrying about is that they neither become attached to their workplaces nor work with all their hearts. They don't quit but still work half-heartedly.
HR experts call this syndrome as "office zombies" that will have a negative impact and "destroy" working spirit of other employees and laborers with negative attitudes and behaviors. The rate of indifferent employees in Vietnamese companies is higher than the world's average rate (26%).
The reason why employees are bored, indifferent and not engaged to their workplaces is that they are not physically and mentally healthy enough and the working environment does not make them satisfied or give them adequate support.
Ms. Phan Nguyen Nhat Thao, Human Resources Head of Amway Vietnam, said that the zombie problem should be solved by zombies and that employees and laborers are people who make specific commitments and seek approval from managers to implement their commitments. Besides, companies need to "create pressure", identify specific and clear targets about implementation methods and deadlines for their employees. With this solution, companies will better understand employees, and employees will also make more effort.
